Tim Loveday

This is your chance

mum: to play Joni Mitchell
in the kitchen at 10pm: to dance
as if this world is watching: to say bitch
shut up without the sting: to hang abstract art
from wonky rafters: smoke reefers with strangers
& down entire bottles: you can love with a belly so full
of stitches: you can love with all your innocence: pick up
the phone & call again: scream out I’m coming in: you can love with all
tenderness: find your delicacy: eat continental: truly eat anything: that’s an epilogue:
cocktails & sunsets & Rivera cruises: time to feel everything: your trousers scrunched
& dampened: water slapping your ankles: pages dogeared & turning: stories stories stories:
pick up the phone & dial that number: turn back to disco: your stardust & apricots & the last
number in kino: there’s light framing a doorway: there’s earth in your hands & seeds in the soil:
you’re standing in the shadow of a turbine: reefers rolled & the Cadillac humming: just open
the throttle: fuck the cliff face: surf the channels: ride the skyline: rewrite the ending:
you’re the foundling & the mother birch: you’re dangerous and omniscient: you’re
the pyrocumulus rising over forest: you are the phonebooth standing there:
within you are a thousand different numbers: a thousand different ways
to proclaim this: fuck you fuck you fuck you:
you are your own switch board: you are
your own kill switch: you’re the maker:
the shaker: the terminator:
the creator: just dial:
don’t wait: see you
on the other
end:
