Ezri Chestworth is the Editor-in-Chief and Designer of Sprig Magazine, where she is dedicated to creating a platform for Australian artists, both emerging and established. She leads a team of editors and writers in delivering thoughtful content,  in print and online, to a diverse audience. Her vision is to create a comfortable and welcoming space for creatives  inside and outside of Meanjin, and to deliver high-quality publications that spark joy, meaningful conversation, connection, and creativity.


ALEX COOPER-WILLIAMS

Alex Cooper-Williams  is a versatile young creative leader based in Meanjin. Alex's interests lie primarily in the intersections between history, science, technology, and writing. When he's not editing Sprig Magazine or Footnote Journal, you can find him reading, playing and watching soccer, or obsessing over his latest creative endeavour.

Claudia is an editor at Sprig Magazine where she aspires to provide meaningful contributions to the arts scene based in Meanjin. Following a degree in creative writing and an unwavering love of literature, she is dedicated to celebrating Australian creatives and is excited for Sprig’s welcoming and inclusive works to reach an equally as enthusiastic audience.

From Aotearoa now based in Naarm, Alexcea joins the team as an Associate Editor at Sprig Magazine. With a keen interest in art, literature, fashion, and music, she comes from a background in painting and poetry, along with a degree in Art History. She has a genuine passion for community building and creating spaces to platform emerging artists of varying disciplines. When she is not writing or painting, she can be found in her happy place- the crowd of a local punk show.


PHOEBE SMALLWOOD

Phoebe Smallwood is an editor, writer and word nerd currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in writing and publishing. She is passionate about art in all its various forms, but has a particular soft spot for literary and speculative fiction. She is thrilled to join the team at Sprig Magazine and its surrounding community of writers and artists.

MAXIMILIAN LEVY

Maximilian Levy is a Melbourne/Naarm-based writer of short-fiction and creative essays, a poet of questionable talent, and the founder, curator, and host of Folk ’N Words, a recurring poetry and folk music event based in Adelaide/Tarntyana. As an editor at Sprig Magazine, it brings him great joy to contribute to a publication that cultivates bold and meaningful articulation––written, curated, and read by patrons of literature and the arts, two of life's tremendous gifts.

Alyza Jeffery is an Illustrator/ Graphic Designer for Sprig magazine, where she hopes to inspire and bring forward a creative voice for the Australian arts community. Adjacent to her career in tattooing, she is excited to work alongside the team and celebrate each artist’s work individually. With precision and intent, her artistic direction can be seen through commissions, logo design and print.

My name is Jess. I am a humanities and English literature student as well as an aspiring writer, so much of my life revolves around reading, writing, and thinking about literature on a daily basis. I love books, I love reading and I love talking to others about these things, so really, a book club is my natural habitat. I also don’t mind a good old boogie. I am very excited to join the Sprig community!

Kubra Iqbal is a Meanjin-based creative who is finding new ways to utilise their creative writing degree. As Community Event Organiser, their aim is to bring people together to encourage meaningful conversations, creativity and new friendships. Their hobbies include overstaying their welcome at coffee shops, taking the bus, and engaging in spirited discussions about whatever book they’re currently reading

GUIDELINES

  1. We are open to all art forms and subject matter

  2. Each poetry submissions must be submitted in 12-point FONT, and must not exceed one A4 page.

  3. Written submissions must not exceed two A4 pages, and must be submitted in 12-point font.
     
  4. Visual submissions must be submitted as scans. Please don’t send photos of paintings/drawings/etc.

  5. All submissions and inquiries must be SUBMITED VIA OUR SUBMISSION PORTAL (RIGHT HERE!)   - please do not submit via DM OR EMAIL, WE WILL NOT CONSIDER IT FOR PUBLICATION.  

  6. send your written submissions as Word docs OR PDFS

  7. NO CHANGES CAN BE MADE TO THE WORK ONCE SUBMITTED.  WE WILL NOT ACCEPT CHANGES MADE AFTER WORK IF WORK IS ACCEPTED.

  8. All submitted work must be the original work of the authoR

  9. WE ACCEPT WORK PUBLISHED ELSEWHERE (THOUGH WE DO PREFER NEW STUFF!)

FAQ
  1. Artists are welcome to submit more than once. please let us know if you’d like your submissions to be considered separately!

  2. Artists will be informed about the outcome of their submissions! It will typically be 2-3 weeks after submissions close.

  3. There are no subject matter guidelines for our issues, unless specifically stated. You are welcome to create on any subject and in any form.

  4. As a small, independent magazine, we are currently unable to offer monetary compensation.

  5. Due to the high number of artists involved in our issue, we cannot offer contributor copies. Our magazine is available to purchase on our website and from our supplier stores.
